Getting thin strips of meat is a lot easier if you partially freeze the meat first. This is best for Asian meals such as Thai or Chinese dishes. When meat is slightly frozen, it becomes simpler to slice because the fibers won't stretch and tear that easy. However, so they are evenly cooked, you want to make certain the meat strips are thawed before cooking.

Try cooking your vegetables in chicken broth. Chicken broth is great for preventing sticking of vegetables and incorporating some great flavor with them. Chicken broth is very inexpensive, and can be purchased at just about any local grocery store.

Even if you have screwed up in this way, there is a fix that will still let you use it right away. In a bowl, mix a tablespoon of cornstarch with a couple of tablespoons of water. Stir the mixture into a warm thin sauce to thicken it. Keep stirring your sauce and add the corn starch little by little.

You can make remarkably flavorful dishes by making your stock yourself. Make a lot at once, so that you can divide it into batches and store it in the freezer. You should always have access to stock when you are cooking other dishes. Homemade soup stock or bullion is a wonderful way to eliminate high sodium and preservatives that are present in commercially made products from your diet.

Start with a fat-free or low-fat soup stock to create a low-fat soup. Add many different types of vegetables and choose a cut of lean meat to add to the soup to make sure that you are keeping the it low-fat. Once the soup is done and ready to eat, let it chill in the refrigerator for a little while. Any fat that is remaining within the soup will float to the top and congeal. Then, all you have to do is spoon out the excess fat from the top of the soup. There is approximately 100 calories per tablespoon of fat, which can make a big difference!

Pungent foods such as garlic, onions, and fish can leave an offensive odor on your hands. You can effectively remove this scent by rubbing your hands on a stainless steel object before you wash them. You can use the sink itself, or even a special steel "soap" in order to remove these smells.

When storing sugar, baking mixes, or flour in your kitchen, use containers that are airtight. Keeping food fresh and bug-free is simple with these containers. These containers are easily purchased online or at your local department or even grocery stores. Wherever you get them from, the freshness of any food you intend to store in them is well worth the investment.

You can make cinnamon rolls much simpler to slice. Cinnamon rolls can be difficult to slice prior to baking. You should place a piece of thread underneath the roll you are wanting to cut. Pull the thread upwards and cross the two ends, then pull quickly. This helps you get "perfect" cinnamon roll slices!

When using nonstick cookware, be sure to also use nylon, rubber, or silicon spatulas and spoons. Silicone, nylon, rubber and wood are much less abrasive and work just as well. Not only will this ruin your pans and make for some some unappealing food, but it could also be dangerous to ingest.

Use cooking oil to measure sticky foods easily. Before you even measure, add a little cooking oil to the spoon, such as canola, and the thing being measured will fall off the spoon easier, so that way you won't have any waste and cleaning up is easier. Peanut butter and honey can also be easily measured out using this method.

You can reduce your stress level by doing your prep work for an important meal the day or night before the event. Get the ingredients ready, chop the veggies, measure and prepare the spices and herbs. It's also a great time to make sure you have everything that is needed. Now all that is left is to assemble the dish and toss it in the oven!

When you purchase fruits that are not quite ripe, put them in a paper bag to ripen. As fruits ripen, they produce a gas called ethylene. The broths adds some additional flavor, and reduces or eliminates the need to use cooking oil to prepare them. This is a delicious, simple way to cook fresh vegetables.

Enjoy greens in the winter time. Kale, collars and broccoli rabe will taste much sweeter after they have lived passed the first frost. You should cook with winter greens that have a bright, deep color. Limp and yellowing greens should be avoided. Wash these greens carefully, as they tend to collect a great deal of dirt. Completely submerge greens in cool water. Shake the water off and then rinse the greens until the water is completely clear.
